Who here is arguing that an 11 year old should be tried as an adult?
But that's irrelevant to this issue anyway. An adult having sex with an 11 year old is wrong, period. There is zero "BUT" or "almost certainly" about it.
It is the way we age discriminate right and left.
If the person under 18 is the victim, then they are a child. If, however, the person under 18 is the offender, we tried to them tried as adults, perhaps even arguing for their execution if they have killed.
If we are truly concerned about children and say nail the teacher to the wall for going after an 11 year old, then shouldn't we say the same when a prosecutor says he wants to try one of similar age as an adult?
If indeed an 11 year old is a child, then they are always a child, without exception, whether they are the victim or the offender, yes?
The point is that in these matters, we like to go both ways, for whatever suits TPTB advantage. At best, it says we are hypocrites.
And at worse? Well, probably that TPTB will rewrite the rule book each time so to best serve them in controlling the populace.
Pedophilia is a wicked sin, but we need to pray for these perverts to they sincerely repent their crimes so that they can get help. Some of these perpetrators are not sorry for what they have done when they confess, and some of them have no conscience.
...................given how we might have one image in our mind of what an 11 year old child looks like and what they actually look like (and we aren't going to get that actual picture), let's at least have a little understanding about the changing appearance of youths over the decades. If in anything else, realize that better nutrition (and saying nothing of what else may be in food) will have the body maturing faster than what we may have known 40 years ago.

I wonder if you'd be saying this same thing if the 11 year old in question was a female, and the perpetrator was a male?

Tell that to the muslim sex predators who do the same to little girl child brides under the guise of marriage.
That's the way it should be. No leniency for being a female pedophile.
There could be, if the female is a 21 year old teaching assistant and the male is a 17 year old senior. I came pretty close to being the "victim" of something like that and didn't really mind. (The girl in my case was not a teacher.)
11 is the problem. Hard prison time.
