This thread is hilarious. A bunch if people throwing around statements with no facts whatsoever to back them up.

A couple questions come to mind.

One, mj stays in the blood stream of heavy users for weeks at a time, so can it be detected more than alcohol?
There's an instant breathalyzer test for alcohol but as far as I know, no equivalent for THC.

Are they now testing mj but were not before legalization?

How do the total number of fatal accidents where a drive had any substance in their system compare to before legalization?

I would want to hear those answers before I jump on the "refer madness" train.
They are testing for pot use if someone is in trouble for pot use. I'm not sure how they go about prosecuting for stoner driving -- if they are! If a car crashes and the owner smells like a college dorm room, can they prosecute on that basis? I have no idea. I do know a number of heroin addicts who have racked up their cars and never been charged with DUI because, again -- no field test.

Unless the OP is also in favour of making alcohol illegal and strict gun laws he is a hypocrite of the highest order.

Pot kills less (and is involved in less deaths) by a long shot than either alcohol or guns. And before you write me off as a pothead I'm not - don't smoke pot but have no issue with responsible adults that choose to do so responsibly.

Legalizing it makes sense and I'm glad our prime minister is expediting the legal changes.

Kinda like the OP because he has no accurate baseline stats to compare to. Peeps weren't going to admit they were on weed while it was still illegal.

I don't know anyone who has ever died of a gunshot wound, but I knew a 16 year old boy who was run over by a stoned driver.

And unlike firearms, there's no Constitutional right to own MJ.

Hmmm ..perhaps comments from non Americans have less skin in the game.. Think your country won't have people dying on the roadways because of pot?
Laughable

High on life and always sober..

Currently we arrest for the objective symptoms of being under the influence of marijuana.. There are some obvious and some subtle differences of mj intoxication vs alcohol. The arrestee is then required to submit for a blood test.. Currently we are generally using the 5 ngm limit as per se under the influence... however ..just like alcohol a lower standard could still reach a conviction based upon the totality of the evidence
For dopers who say look over here at alcohol.. Pure deflection
I hate all intoxicants and practice ..happily... sobriety for my life

Everyone who drives under the influence of anything is a threat on the road

Look at all the posturing here...the denials and deflections... How many of you drive high or with thc in your system ... You think.. Emphasis you.. That you won't be the one
50 percent here locally.. Self eport using mj as a part of their dui... 100-125 a month..every month..tick tock pot clock.. Tick tock pot crock

Every dui a potential murderer

This thread is about marijuana and duid... All the other garbage posted is self evident

Reported marijuana related accidents are up, not accidents in general.

Killing people while under the influence is hilarious?

Is there anyone here who hasn't been touched in some way by a dui?

Let's all start laughing now...

Here lies the problem.. Awareness.. Stupidity.. Criminality... All play a part

Don't you agree?
