Of course it's a wash considering taxpayers are going to be funneling money directly to Corrections Corporation of America instead of indirectly to Wal-Mart, PhillipMorris, Anheuser-Busch, overpriced convenience stores, and the local slumlord.
Trial and imprisonment will cost taxpayers more.

The blows were so severe that Jones' boyfriend, who was playing video games nearby, "believed they would've knocked the wind out of him if he were the one being hit," Przekota said.

He did nothing to protect the life of a baby?? OMG....Cut his junk off....

After reading details of how the little girl died it is heart wrenching. No person should ever have to go through what she did. Sadly there is a lot of hate in this world.

About 450 children are killed by their parents each year in the US. Children under 5 are most often killed by their mother, children over 8 are most often killed by their father, between 5 and 8 it's a toss-up.

My grandfather ran away from home at 15 because a neighbor beat his son to death. My grandfather was afraid his father would kill him too. They were "Spare the rod and spoil the child," Christians.

Illinois has no money and with the current budget stand-off it is worse than normal.

This is NOT a racial issue. It is also not a Chicago issue. This is a children's issue.

Children have the right to be raised by adults, without boyfriends on parade, and without violence.

In this case, the boyfriend did not participate in the beating. He sat there. However, his presence could have made the "mother" more impatient than usual, or she could have been attempting to impress him by showing him how little she cared about the child she had with another man.
Or trying to show off.

What ever the reason, unplanned babies, born to unwed mothers who are under 21, should not be assisted in keeping their families together. They should be helped to make an adoption plan, provided with birth control and education for an in demand trade.

This never goes well. Ever.

There are families who would have loved that precious baby.
