President Barack Obama will name the first woman to head a U.S. combatant command, selecting Air Force General Lori Robinson as the next head of the military's Northern Command, Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Friday.

The position, which is subject to Senate confirmation, is one of the most senior in the U.S. military and would make Robinson - who now leads U.S. air forces in the Pacific - the top general overseeing activities in North America.

Maybe little Lori will make Putin take us seriously. Her boss sure hasn't.

Sure.

Sneeringly dismiss a general as diminutive because of her gender, then inject some partisan whine that mistakes the decrepit Russian state as some sort of boogeyman. Rest assured, that poster wasn't whining when the previous President was declaring Putin 'trustworthy' after peering 'into his soul' and then doing nothing as he invaded Georgia (not that he should have done anything in particular - I'm just noting the raging double standard that kicks in as soon as there's a President he doesn't like in office).

Back to the topic at hand, it's always good to see talent utilized, rather than systematically ignored for such an irrelevant and arbitrary and inane reason as lacking the 'correct' genitalia.

Impressive career. Lots of education, too.

Looks like family military, too. Hubby Major Gen and step-daughter was AF Acad grad (but died).
