Buena Park man sentenced to community service at Sikh temple he admitted vandalizing
“They believe it can be a productive result, having him learn about them and their beliefs,” Rodriguez said. “They wanted to see something positive come from this.”
Sikhism – also known as Sikhi – is an Indian religion, and is not affiliated with Islam.
Sinks should not be confused with Moslems
I think this is Karma in action

Smart judge. We need more sentences like these, which will hopefully serve to educate and de-moronize the people who commit such acts.

Agree with Arctic.
Given that the vandal is a young man I think community service as a learning experience is better then some kind of jail time. Not just learning for him but for any of his friends in the neighborhood.

I find the actual punishment a bit odd.
Suppose the target was a Christian church and the vandal was a devout Muslim? Would those who support the punishment consider it righteous in this case, or would it be viewed as "forcing the Christian religion down the Muslim perps throat"?
I'm not looking to start a fight. I'm just curious if a change of circumstances would change people's opinions.
I believe community service is appropriate, but not necessarily in the place of worship. I have no solid opinion on this either way...but something about it strikes me as odd, and I'm not sure why.

You dont have to pray when doing community service...I am sure Sikhs would nt have asked him to pray too.

I'm not sure what you're supporting. You're saying it's OK to be forced to do community service in a house of worship, so long as nobody asks the perp to pray?
Is that something written into the "rules of punishment conduct"? Suppose somebody violates those rules and...(gasp!)... prays for the perp...or asks him to join their prayer group? What then? It IS, afterall, a House of Worship. Who calls the shots - the church or the government? Is this the government's way of sticking the camel's nose beneath the tent?
This is why I'm uneasy about this punishment.

I don't have any problem with it at all. I think it's brilliant.

Since you have stressed that this is a Sikh temple, and that "Sikhs should not be confused with Moslims" are you OK with vandalism of mosques?
Sad. All of it. Vandalizing any house of worship is wrong.
ETA - if I were the Sikhs, I wouldn't want him anywhere near my temple.
