A Houma mother had the shock of her life when her 5-year-old son did not get off the school bus Monday. The child was found walking on the road alone about a quarter-mile from the school.
Her son Kenneth Theriot typically takes the bus home from school which arrives at 3:45 p.m., but when the bus came Monday he was not on it.
"I got an empty pit in my stomach because at that moment I didn’t know where my child was. I was scared," Hotard siad.
Police found him on the side of the road about a quarter-mile away from Legion Park School.
"At the corner of this fence is where they found my child," Hotard said. "He had walked through the four-way intersection up there, passed that to here. There’s a bayou on this side and a bayou on that side and straight-on incoming traffic there."
She said her son told a substitute teacher he had a note saying he could walk home. She later found out he did not want to ride the bus because kids had been blowing spitballs at him.
What is the matter with the administration at this school? My daughter's school won't even let the bus leave until every child who's supposed to be on it is accounted for. Who the hell lets a 5 year old start walking off on his own?

Ya ultimately the school IS VERY LUCKY nothing happend to him!!
I wish he had the courage to just tell them he didnt wanna ride ths bus as he got made fun of bad... Im sure they would have called his mum to come get him!!
I'd like to hear the sequel to this. What is the mom going to do about it? What is the school doing to do about bullying on the bus? Maybe all the kids who suffer bullying on the bus should boycott the schoolbus, to force the school to do something. How hard could it be to pay a couple of older teen boys to ride the bus and get tough with the bullies?

You don't think maybe the school might face some serious legal and liability issues hiring some neighborhood tough kids to "get tough with" younger students? From a liability management standpoint they're probably better off negligently letting a 5-year-old skip the bus and walk home by himself.

What substitute teacher thinks it's ok for a five year old to walk home by himself? I would be at that school screaming at the principal like a psycho person! I would then be on the phone with the school board! The bus company needs to be involved too. Why is the bus driver allowing bullying? There is zero tolerance for bullying at my children's school. Kids could be expelled for it.
