The school punishes all kids based on the actions of a few. That's only acceptable in the military, IMHO.

Punish the troublemakers, not the entire school. If the solution for that is beyond the capabilities of current school administrators, replace them with administers who have the balls to get things done.

Schools are often places where stupidity and impracticality run rampant. The student didn't have enough common sense to just get up and go either. Fools all around.

These are just kids. Please don't blame the children when you have no clue what goes on in their home. Maybe this child had no support at home. Maybe he lacked parents who would back him up if he "disobeyed" the teacher. Maybe he was shy, and maybe the teacher considered shy kids wimps.

Please don't blame the child until you know all the ingredients that went into making and raising him. Some ingredients might have been missing.

On the other hand, please don't blame the teacher when you have no clue why the kid was denied. Maybe this child had a history of leaving class and wandering around. Maybe he causes havoc whenever he's unsupervised. Maybe he's been on a no pass status for awhile.

Guess who gets disciplined when a teacher allows a student who's on a no pass status out of the room unescorted (I'll help you out-it ain't the kid).

As are the number of kids who decide to embarrass the teacher by letting it flow in public. There is no blanket zero or 100 percent tolerance policy which will work. Teachers just have to use their judgment of what is really going on right there and now.

Sometimes they are wrong and the kid proverbially decides to be carried by six instead of being tried by the teacher and school administrators. Forgetting that it is easier to get forgiveness than permission

Exactly

Kids attending middle school should be potty trained.

Parents should provide guidance on how to avoid peeing one's pants by the time they reach their teens.

Schools exist provide the three Rs. Parents exist to provide parenting.

This system works pretty well when schools and parents do their parts. Kids can turn out defective when one of those fails.

When I was in middle school we had 3 minutes to get from one side of school to the other or we were tardy. After 3 tardies you had detention. The restrooms were even on the other side of the school from most of my classes. And there was an upstairs and downstairs. One of the teachers would count you tardy if you weren't in your seat when the bell rang. You could just be coming in the doorway but you were still tardy. I was born with a bad leg, so I sometimes had trouble enough just getting across the building in time. I often didn't have time to go to the restroom as well. The teachers sometimes wouldn't even let the girls out if they started suddenly and they usually bled on themselves and had to wear it the rest of the day. It had got so common that people wouldn't pay attention to it much anymore.

This was a middle school. Obviously all schools are different, but mine were all right next to each other. But most kids are not leaving one class and going straight to re next. Instead they're in the hallways talking with friends and goofing off. Sometimes students need to learn to prioritize their time.

But when are 900 students ever going to all need to use the restroom at the same time?

I agree they do need that.
