This would have been really big news in the 1960s, '70s, '80s. In the 1990s and '00s, it still would have been moderately big news. Now it's little more than a curiosity.
Ironically, those communist countries that have embraced market economies, and retained communist as little more than a slogan - China, Vietnam - are the only ones that remain relevant. Cuba is, and has for decades, been more more of a 'threat' than the Bahamas.
