You know, these things are listening all the time.

Now it seems that an Amazon Echo might have information needed to prove murder.

Lots of interesting issues at play here.

I watched a CNN story about it yesterday...the prosecutors /police are grasping at straws. It really isn't likely anything is on there...its really much ado about nothing.

Interesting will have to watch. This could be a bungle for Amazon if it's discovered these machines record you when inactive.

They may not all be recording but they are definitely always listening, otherwise they would not respond when called.

It isn't "listening". Its a machine. When the machine senses the sounds that make the word "Alexia" it then records up to 60 seconds and "responds" like technology now does. It isn't "listening".

Sorry, but that is not logical. How does it "sense" you are saying Alexia if it isn't listening to begin with?
The fact that its a machine means nothing -- the sounds are being received and possibly transmitted. And using the term"sense" with quotation marks does not make it different from "listening."
