They lived in Ormond Beach and where they were found was about 40 minutes southwest of their home. Their facebook pages say they were from Sanford which is just north of Orlando. Perhaps they were on their way home from visiting family or friends south of them.
The Volusia County Sheriff's (which has jurisdiction) facebook page says the autopsy hasn't been scheduled yet and they wont be releasing any further info until its done. What's odd is that neither they nor any local news says anything about where the kids are or that any family has stepped up to take custody of them. As well as no comments from family.
When people on the Sheriff's facebook started suggesting drug OD, someone who said they know the husband said "Not in this case. They loved those kids. Dan did everything he could do for his family. They just got a new start."
So, don't know if they means they were separated and got back together or if they had a run of bad luck with jobs or something else.

I think the new start was overcoming their drug addictions. I've seen other comments on social media from people who knew the guy, and it definitely soumds like drugs were involved,

I think that is the most likely thing. Because lets face it, what are the odds they both stepped outside the car and got bit by a rattlesnake in Dec even though we are having a bit of a heat wave.
or they were traveling home from the holidays. Maybe their family was from out of state. We often let the kids sleep when we left at night to come home. They slept and we had a quiet drive home. ...
I agree, the hazard lights are an indication that they had their wits about them . Anything beyond that is speculation til the police give more clear data of information.
This. God help me if I'm suspicious to posters on CD because we travel on a fairly regular basis and have driven through the night. Travel seems highly likely around the holidays. And using the hazards does indicate a certain level of cognizance.

Ok.. But most people who travel through the night don't end up mysteriously dead on the side of the road. Even if they were traveling for the holidays, there is more to the story than that. Their friends on social media seem to think it was drug related.
Driving also requires a certain amount of cognizance, but people drive on drugs all the time. I don't see how using the flashers rules out drug use.
