Diapers for horses? but no consequence (or facilities) for homeless folks dropping landmines in the bushes and beaches.

That's the way I've always seen it done with carriages. And I can't see any reasonable objection to those setups, as they work pretty well but don't disturb the horse in any way.

Does the original story say WHY the Amish are objecting to this law?

The article didn't say anything specific, but here are some quotes:

"...violates the ability of Amish residents to exercise their religion."

"...equine diapers violate the community's religious standards."

"...the law is singling out the Amish."

All very vague, and nonsensical to me.

And while the article did use the term diaper several times, when quoting the law it said "properly fitted collection device."

What about the pee odor? I'm not talking just the Amish, but anywhere that they have carriage rides for tourists.

Wouldn't a horse diaper catch the pee too? But you're right, that has a stench too.

Did I mention the spread of weeds?
yes, but I haven't experienced a lot of weeds growing in the road.
Joking aside, I don't know how bad the problem is in Amish country. We have several Mennonite communities but they rarely use buggies anymore and I have never encountered animal feces as a problem. I really dont see where they can use religious beliefs for this issue.

^^^^THAT was the point of my posting this, not whether or not the law was a good one.

Yep, who cares about the environment. Tax payers can just foot the bill for spraying toxic chemicals along side the roadways.

God forbid, horse owners should take responsibility for their pet's waste!

Depends whether it's a male or female horse.
