It does appear she was stealing. I mean, what else do you call it when someone takes something not meant for them. And based on link above looks like this wasn't her first time.
If these things were known beforehand, I would have posted this in the Darwin award thread.
According to other news sites like philly.com, she was probably stealing from the drop box rather than donating to it.
Hence the 2am part. And why would someone donating have their entire arm deep in the bin like that? You just lift the cover and toss your stuff in. Even on a stool, you wouldn't be reaching down into the bin.
This was a clothing thief. I'm not saying she deserved to die, particularly in such a horrible manner. But the evidence suggests she was doing something not so honest.
My first thought. Subsequently documented. Karma is a B.

What a horrible death. My first thought was ^^^^^^.. Makes sense that way.
Many people are under the misconception that all these clothing drop boxes are placed by charities when the majority are operated by for profit organizations that sell the goods either for reuse or for rags or other industrial purposes.
It's not any different than goodwill who sells the donated goods
If she WAS stealing,I feel bad she was that desperate.....
I don't think it was desperation as much as greed. You would be surprised how many people will steal to sell on Ebay or Craigslist and have plenty of money. I have a cousin who is married to a doctor, totally loaded, and will quietly brag about the shady things she does to save money or make a quick buck out of complete greed.
It's a cautionary tale. Kids, if you're going to steal from charity bins, drive a less distinctive vehicle than an $80K black Hummer. And bring a robotic arm to reach in with. Safer, and leaves less fingerprints that way.

You beat me to it. She was apparently stealing donations from the box. She had been seen before (the black Hummer is kind of "noticeable"), but never caught. Not that anyone deserves to die in that manner, but if she wasn't trying to steal, she would not have died. Very sad for her family, and probably shocking as all get-out.
