Shortage in South Texas sure, shortage everywhere else in the U.S.? NO! But prices have increased because they are using Houston as a reason to gauge gas prices! BTW, we have refineries here too!
What's frustrating is people panicking and filling up trash cans and milk jugs full of gas. The panic is causing the shortage in most areas. If people would conserve and not overuse it will be back to normal shortly.
If every vehicle owner filled tank of every car it would create a shortage even if for a small time blip of time... at least this is what I learned back in my school days.
From what I've heard, that was expected to happen with labor day weekend - gas prices always go up then. Maybe not that much, but still a bump in price.
Not 30 cents a gallon in 3-4 days. Prices didn't even go up in my area for the 4th of July, or for Memorial Day, for that matter. Stations that were between $2.20 and $2.30 on Monday are now between $2.60 and $2.70. The highest price I saw last night was $2.77 for Regular.
After Sandy there was a shortage for about 3 or 4 weeks in Northern NJ area, the reason was the refineries that process the crude oil were damaged and not operational and gas stations could not get deliveries. It was not panic buying just the simple fact that they could get the gas to sell and they had to close so that may be the same case in Texas.

There are long lines and lots of stations out of gas in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas too so the issue has crept up to north Texas.
We live about an hour and a half from Dallas and while we do have gas at some stations here, we're also out of gas at many stations - I'd say it's about 50/50 here. Meanwhile, gas has gone up about .25 a gallon.
Interesting times we live in.
I have to drive to Dallas in about a week. Hope things have settled down some by then.
