A Deltona husband and wife’s story that they were shot during a home invasion was suspicious from the beginning and it fell apart when detectives learned the man and woman actually shot themselves with hopes of fraudulently collecting insurance money, Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.
Lindsey Pelton, 36, has a criminal history that shows fraud, scheming and scamming is her forte. And the staged home invasion was to be no different: an elaborate scheme to defraud, Chitwood said.
Except it didn’t work.
Instead of looking forward to a payday, Doug Teixeira, 35, and his wife, Lindsey, were locked up Tuesday for reporting a false crime, Chitwood said.
"Carson stated neither Lindsey or Doug ‘have two pennies to rub together,’ ” investigators wrote in their report. “Carson said he knew his daughter and she had probably ‘never seen $7,000 in her life."
Good on the dad for telling the truth instead of trying to protect them.
Gotta wonder why he supports 30-somethings, tho. Time to let them swim or sink. I guess that'll have to wait a few years till they're out of jail for fraud, but hopefully he puts that money into his retirement account from now on instead of wasting in on these idiots.
These 2 idiots were caught, but then again, many others ARE successful at defrauding insurance thru various schemes, they only catch a very small percentage, only the ones who do not know how to pull it off.
To be fair to Florida, everyone I know that lives there moved from another state. And I predict one of those people will end up as a current event on CD. When I visit the sun and humidity typically make me nuts by day 5.

It's not for the faint of heart. Heat, hurricanes, crazy people. Came here from Ohio many years ago and I can say there is never a dull moment. Ohio was incredibly boring.

I see what you did there.
