NEW YORK (AP) — A painting of Christ by the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci sold for a record $450 million (380 million euros) at auction on Wednesday.
The painting, called “Salvator Mundi,” Italian for “Savior of the World,” is one of fewer than 20 paintings by Leonardo known to exist and the only one in private hands.

I'm not into art, fine jewelry at all. Honestly I would rather have copies/fakes and enjoy it just as much without any of the worry about owning it (or heck even paying for it!).
I'm just a few bucks short of 450 million these days and still would rather fund low income housing/job assistance programs for Americans as my legacy as opposed to buying expensive stuff.

Whoever bought this painting is not going to hang it over the fireplace so that they can admire it every day. It was probably purchased as an investment. It will also, most likely, be held at a museum or some other place that has adequate security and insurance and the resources to keep it in optimum condition.
Re 26 inches...
Funny story...a lady asked me if I painted something for her would the price be cheaper
if it were smaller? (painting was to be 3.5ft x 3.5' on canvas)
My immediate response was, lol...."You actually don't buy paintings like a refrigerator...
and smaller may actually mean more expensive."
"Oh."
Not many know unless they have some esoteric Eastern spiritual knowledge that his right hand in 'that' particular position is SO significant.
Don't ask me why...(I actually can't tell anyone...that is how guarded and esoteric it IS!!!)
Ha! I took a vow not to reveal it and other things...hey, I'd be happy to spill it, otherwise!
