No matter what the whole story is, there is NO excuse for the son to do that. I'm sure if the dad did the same to the kid and he "didn't intend to inflict such damage," Social Services would be involved.
This^^^
And just because the mom immediately bailed the kid out doesn't mean the father was somehow at fault. Hope she realizes she basically just sent the message that regardless of how deplorable the behavior mama has your back. And I doubt it's the first time she has unwittingly sent that message which is probably a huge contributing factor in how far things have escalated with this kid.
Ok. This will just turn into a "Young people can’t put their phones down" and "young people are so entitled" thread.
With that being said, let him be charged and serve some time.
I'm sure it will, but this kid has serious anger problems. It is not normal to seriously assault one's father over a trivial request. I suspect this will not be the last time he sees the inside of a jail cell.
Apparently, it's meant to address elderly victims, but I don't agree with the distinction. A victim is a victim.
Not really, though. Would you say there's no difference between striking a child vs adult? Or how about someone in a wheelchair? Children and elderly people have weaker bones, so they can be more seriously injured in comparison to a healthy adult... I'm assuming that is why they make a distinction, along with added protection in "elder abuse" cases. Despite popular belief, courts SHOULD consider both the victim and motivation behind most crimes. These things matter, and if you don't understand why, I'd be happy to explain further.

No, it isn't.
Makes one wonder where all of that anger came from.
Hope dad removes any/ all guns from his home; given his son has some serious issues.
Then I would shut down his phone service, for good.
