I’m not saying it’s a serves him right as doing something silly as eating a slug shouldn’t mean a life as a quadriplegic coma victim. It’s a pretty stupid thing to do but the kid doesn’t deserve such sentence.
Is it a dumb thing to do? Yup
Does the kid or the family deserve it? No
I think it’s more of a “how stupid can you be/wtf were you thinking” sort of feedback from posters. I dont think anyone really thinks the kid deserves such as it’s happening.
Not you, but there were several posts that had that attitude.
For that reason, I firmly believe that a civilized world should have established legal euthanasia laws

It's a sad irony that we can now control so many things in life now - yet, the death is the only thing largely left to chance! Plus, with so many "life-extending" technologies these days, the line got so blurred that it seems nearly impossible to die peacefully "when the time had come"...
To those that say "death was always allowed" (as in suicide), what's so civilized about such violent means to end? Shouldn't we have something better available? More humane??
Obama tried to include more autonomy in end of life decisions in the ACA, but fear mongers called it "death panels" and convinced people he wanted to kill their grand moms. End of being able to discuss it politically as a result.
From the sound of his condition, constant seizures, paralyzed from the neck down, cannot maintain constant temperature, 24 hour care, would this kid even want to live like this, if he were given the choice? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Exactly. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't opt out of life. There are too many people who want others to have life at all costs and even in places where he could opt out, he would still be required to physically take the medication that would kill him, and he can't do that.

This is why parents need to reinforce to their kids not to fall under peer pressure or the need to appease people since in the end you are on your OWN. No one is paying your bills, no one is putting food on your table, no one is putting a roof over your head and lastly, no one is cleaning your butt. All that is on YOU. I feel sad for his mom since now she has to take care of him and not enjoy her golden years. Something like this can destroy a family since no one wants to be fully responsible for the care or bills. (which is understandable.)

They were 12, no matter how much you tell children not to do silly things, they are going to. The scene in A Christmas Story where the kid's tongue freezes to the pole because the other kids "triple dog dared" him to lick it is typical of kids. This kid just had a rare and very sad result. The other kids were children too, why would they be responsible for his bills 7 years later? It is a terrible accident but there is no fault to be had, JMO.
America's Funniest Home Videos featured people who did MANY stupid things that could have resulted in tragedy, as does Tosh.O and other shows like it. It is almost always young guys. I never liked AFHV but a majority of viewers apparently did. So kids grow up watching even adult men do stupid things, but we expect them to know better.
