Well, not sure what he was expecting putting a MORTAR TUBE on his head and lighting it.

Man Dies After Attempting to Shoot Fireworks From Top of Head | TheBlaze.com

Quote:
Devon Staples and his friends had been drinking and setting off fireworks Saturday night in the backyard of a friend’s home in the small eastern Maine city of Calais, said Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety. Staples, 22, of Calais, placed a fireworks mortar tube on his head and set it off, he said.

The firework exploded, killing Staples instantly, McCausland said.

Yup. I figured it was alcohol related even before I read the news article. Booze and explosive devices. Not a good combination.

I remember a while back reading that sparklers were the #1 cause of fireworks injuries because they are the only ones your supposed to hold in your hand. I guess some people ain't satisfied with burnt fingers, they have to have their head blown off to have a happy 4th of July.
