You're damn right he as some responsibility here. Accessible guns and kids don't mix - people die every year from accidental discharges, and then you have bizarre incidents like this.

I would never allow a gun to be unsecured if I had any kids in the house. I keep all my guns secured except my home defense weapon, but that is even secured when I am not home (I have a carry permit, but rarely carry).

Yes, and not everyone does this, as we can clearly see. Which is a problem.

There was obviously more going on here. Who knows what the issues were. Mentally healthy kids don't kill people over chores. Really sad.

It is possible the grandpa killed them both and set the scene up to fit his story, can't rule that out.

That's a possibility that crossed my suspicious mind too.

Not only is an 11 year old murder suicide one of the rarest crimes as one can think of, but why in hell would the grandpa stop chasing a kid with a gun who just shot his wife to "attend" to her? that's really unbelievable that he wouldn't chase him down and take the gun away before doing anything else, I have to believe that would be #1 priority for anyone in this situation.
All in all the story is very unbelievable.
