At the height of the drought in California, someone sabotaged a small dam on the outskirts of a Bay Area town. All that water rushed down a riverbed into the Bay. I think as the climate crisis and other environmental issues intensify, we may see more of this type of sabotage.

Meh, the article is BS sensationalism. Ooh, a half a million bees! The horror
Oh, honeybee numbers are dwindling!
Do you know what the natural number of honeybees is in the US?
It's 0. That's right, ZERO. Honey bees are not native to North America, they are an imported foreign species. Our 'survival' is in no way tied to the survival of the honey bee. There are plenty of natural pollinators, which are not honey bees.
The pollination of certain crops, by some producers, is a commercial decision, as production can be enhanced by flooding an area with imported pollinators instead of letting 'nature' do her thing.
I am a beekeeper. The average double-deep hive contains 50,000-70,000 bees. So, less than a dozen average hives destroyed. While the destruction of personal property by vandals is deplorable, it is by no means a crisis...and certainly nothing more than simple vandalism. I lost nearly as many bees this past Winter, as a result of shrews invading some of my hives, and a longer, colder Winter which rendered the bees' stores insufficient

I hope the people who did this are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. What a horrible thing to do. I bet that the sudden loss of honeybees will allow the African bees to gain territory locally.

Exactly because burning beehives and killing bees like that is a travesty.
I read about this yesterday, and I am furious and heartsick. It's beyond my understanding how people can do this, knowing that bees have been in decline, we need them to pollinate our food crops, and destruction of someone else's business property can be devastating to the owners.
This is Texas where fools run rampant and for public office all the time...
I imagine if the culprits are discovered they will prove to be local teens who were “celebrating” end of school or some stupid dare...
Probably all good church-goers and maybe one with a LEO in the family...
