Good.

Notice this happened in a Spanish court, NOT in the United States.

Good for the judge, there should be consequences for your actions, especially these narcissists and their stupid YouTube channel/vlogs.

A YouTuber notorious for his viral pranks has been sentenced to prison after one prank drew major criticism from the Internet.

Kanghua Ren, who amassed YouTube fame under the username ReSet, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and fined approximately $22,000 by a Spanish court after a video documenting himself filling Oreos with toothpaste and giving them to a homeless man went viral in 2017, reports Spanish newspaper El País.

Ren was found guilty of damaging the stranger's moral integrity and was also banned from YouTube for five years as part of his sentencing. He had over 1 million subscribers and is especially popular in Spain for his videos, which often garner up to hundreds of thousands of views.

The punishment does not fit the crime. The homeless man was not injured in this prank while he was given $22 by the youtuber. He should be punished, but 15 months in prison and $22,000 is way too excessive.

I'm fine with whatever punishment the YouTuber received.

Adulterating food should be a serious crime. I think he got off light. Those who don't think it is serious are probably the same ones who think it is hilarious to make "chocolate chip" cookies using exlax.

Clearly you're entertained by basic level gags like this. Probably time to grow up?

There once was a fellow named Ren
Whose pranks cost him time in the pen
While he was in there
to God he did swear
that he'd never pull pranks again.

If this guy were actually going to prison, he'd be right. The $22k fine was apparently arrived at based on how much money his average video made.

But, Spanish law says first time offenders don't do prison time they're sentenced to for non-violent crimes. So.. The sentence was mostly symbolic, and the fine being what he made off the video (and a few more).. Once you dig down, it's not an outrageous sentence.

But.. If he were actually going to prison for this? Damn right it would be excessive. What next? Lock up someone who gets tricked into doing the Bean-Boozled challenge? Life in prison for 15mph over the limit? Execution for jaywalking?

He could have either not humiliated an already down and out person, or given him actual edible food. His choice could have been better, and not led to all these problems. This situation was not meant to exist. He made it so and that was the end result.
