Wow... Escorting inmates out wasn’t protocol prior to this??? Jails are like a maze to those unfamiliar with the corridors. It is very easy to get lost.

Not the jails I've seen, and I've seen 3.
When they release the arrested people, there is about a 30 foot walk to the door of the building. They are released into a lobby, en masse for the day, and the door is OBVIOUS that they need to walk through - if they can't figure out where to go, follow the crowd.
I've never seen a jail where you have to figure out how to get out of the building. And where you could get into an elevator that doesn't lead you out.

Especially if you get on the elevator, press all the buttons, get off on a random floor, and go through an exit door that is marked "Do Not Enter".
Sorry, but it seems like this woman had some serious issues if taking the elevator down to the 1st floor was too difficult of a task to complete without assistance.

I'd be interested in seeing the set-up.
Sometimes, there are signs that are just not all that obvious. And she was trying to go home from jail, so not in the best, clearest and calmest frame of mind.
I think we've all seen things that are very user-unfriendly, and confusing, and typically it's in a government building or on a government website.
Another BIG curiosity here, is that once you go through the "fire exit door" - the emergency exit, to be used if the building is on fire - you're now trapped in the building until an EMPLOYEE unlocks the exit. What Einstein thought up that system? That has got to be a code violation, and a flagrant one at that.

Yeah...all day this.
But that said, maybe it should just be generally assumed that inmates have serious issues, full stop, period, and never assume they have common sense.

I've only ever been in one (hopefully my only visit ever)and I was escorted out... I remember thinking to myself that I'd never be able to find my way out on my own. The hallways were all massive corridors with no signs, no markings, no windows... Doors were huge, metal sliding doors. Multiple branching paths. Etc. It was a mess.
