I've just seen cases where the first story lists an assailant as the "father" when in reality, it's the boyfriend.

Seems like in this case, the story was right, he was the child's father.

Agree. It is illegal to hit an adult. It should also be illegal to hit children in any way, shape, or form. A child should not have to live in fear of having to submit to any sort of violence perpetrated against them.

So a totally normal little boy and others it says saw a pretty birthday cake and ate it.

And a long grown man beat his child to death over a birthday cake.

The little boy was doing what a child does over a good looking cake if he isn't watched. Totally normal for the little boy. Totally wacked out for a grown man.

The definition of homicide is murder. Charges need to be accurate so the prosecutor has an easier time proving the case.

Reckless homicide is when the perpetrator was aware that their act creates significant risk of death or grievous bodily harm in the victim, but ignores the risk and continues to act, and a human death results.

Sounds like the correct charge to me.

Did you see the picture in the article? You can tell by his neck that this is a guy who works out. He would have a murderous advantage over a little 5-year old kid. What an awful incident.
