I can't believe people think metal is more eco-friendly than plastic. Mining has terrible effects on local ecosystems and smelting releases huge amounts of CO2. The fact that plastic doesn't biodegrade also means its a permanent CO2 sink. You'd need to save thousands of plastic straws to equalize the impact.
