For the Humulins, it's $96.75 per vial. For Novolog, $448 for 5 pens, $232 for a vial. Humalog 50/50 or 75/25 is $327.44 for 5 pens, $178 for a vial. Lantus is $199 a vial.


You might be able to get an older insulin cheaply at Walmart, but that doesn't mean it will be appropriate for your diabetes. It's what we used to get for our diabetic cat, actually. If I recall correctly, it was Humulin, and it was really cheap.
It's the Humulin NPH that was very inexpensive here about 25 years ago. It was around $25.00 a vile and no prescription needed. I don't recall exactly when, but the NPH spiked to jaw dropping prices.

My son, who is 18, needs a medication that costs a minimum of $12000 a year without insurance. Our insurance just dropped this med. Of the 8 alternatives they suggest, 6 don't work for him and 1 is no longer in production. We're waiting to get the 8th one to try, but I'm really worried that this is going to be a real struggle now. And, yes, I've looked into getting it from Canada. At this point, there is no measurable cost saving (maybe ~$75 a year). This is a REAL issue, and it is impacting a lot of people.
