Dumb thieves didn't check the car, find the phone, and remove the sim card.

The article says the lady was arrested. It also says the car is so gross she can’t use it anymore, apparently she never heard of cleaning or not leaving your keys in the car at the gas station.

Debsi, the way you wrote that sounds like you're talking about the car's OWNER? But it was the thieves (or at least one of them) who were (or was) arrested, and the owner is saying they left her car a total mess.

In the video she made a remark about not leaving the car on (when she caught up with the police) and laughed, which kind of acknowledges that that's how the thieves got it in the first place. So that was pretty dumb, but I like the rest of the story. (Not saying it's a good idea to track thieves, though -- you never know what they will end up doing!)

Amateur thieves. Pro's would throw the debit and credit cars in the trash or hock it to the local crack addicts, and then take the car immediately to a chop shop.

Of course, I assume these thieves were crack or meth addicts themselves, not the brightest bunch.

She did. She said she "turned it back on to see if they'd use it." Smart move.

Yes, you're right! Still, making a string of purchases with it seems a bit stupid.

This wasn't premeditated. These thieves aren't pros. They're opportunists, who thought they'd scored a free car, then saw that the car came with some freebies, like a phone and. a credit or debit card, so they went on a spree, without thinking. All they could think of at the time, was that they'd gotten lucky.

The owner is a woman. The thief is a woman. My post could have been written more clearly, but I fully understand the situation. The thieves made the car stinky and dirty, but it sure didn’t sound like it would be beyond a professional cleaning.
