My thought was the kid in the red shirt felt sorry for the smaller, slower and maybe younger kid.
At first I couldn't figure out how the Phillies organization knew which kids to give the autographed balls to, then I realized they probably have public relations staff at every game to handle situations like this.
There was another clip this morning, a father and little boy, both Astro's fans, watching them play the Angels, when the little boy caught a home run ball hit by one of the Astro's...then promptly stood up and tossed it back onto the field, lol. Dad looked shocked and disappointed. I hope the guy who hit the home run sees it and gives them a signed ball, too,
I didn't look at this clip until after I posted....I did not expect the kids to be older. Usually I picture little children when I think of the generosity of something like this...these kids look to be about 11 or 12, I think it's awesome that boy was so generous.
I love it! He probably remembered he was told to return things that don't belong to him.
What was the point for that kid to go after the ball if he was just going to give it away??
The whole thing looked like a staged photo op. I mean really. The kid running to get it but doesn't want it? That awkward hug at the end? 2 different races?

Staged.
I find that an absurd thought. In order to stage it, they would have to have the pitcher and the batter be in on it therefore both coaches too, and have him throw him a pitch just right to get it into that exact spot where those kids were. Do you know how hard that would be? You’d even have to get any other fans who might be sitting in the area to be in on it so they didn’t go for the ball. It would be next to impossible and it’s silly to think otherwise.
PS very glad I’m not that cynical I find that sad.
