A Georgia teen was sentenced to life in prison for murder after strangling his sister in a fight when he changed the wifi password to knock others at home off the internet.

Kevon Watkins, then 16, wanted to block anyone else from logging on at his family’s Macon home so that it wouldn’t slow down the service while he played video games.

When his mother protested and it appeared he might hit her, Kevon’s 20-year-old sister, Alexus, stepped in — and Kevon grabbed Alexus by the throat and put her in a chokehold that lasted an estimated 15 minutes.

Was a dad in the picture at all? Seems unlikely with the boy's willingness to hurt his mother and his sister.

Sounds like someone who should be behind bars for life. Terribly unstable behavior throughout this story and more events like this were in his future.

In all likelihood, no. Which is sad and far too common.

As one Yahoo commenter said, "So...mom took 15 minutes to call the police while her son strangled his sister to death. Well...there goes her mother of the year award."

Kevon Watkins waived his right to a jury trial and had Bibb Superior Court Judge Verda M. Colvin hear his case. According to The Macon Telegraph, mother Latoya Watkins testified that Kevon Watkins was in a bad mood when she picked him up from school that day and that Alexus Watkins had intervened when she thought he was going to hit her.

However, Colvin noted that Latoya Watkins’ claims before her son was charged with murder differed from her testimony on the stand. The judge said the mother testified that Alexus Watkins was “trying to stand up for her”—but the 911 call she placed didn’t identify her daughter as the aggressor, the news outlet reported.

Latoya Watkins was unaware that her 13-year-old son had called 911 minutes after she did. He told the dispatcher how his older brother had his sister in a chokehold and that he was threatening his mom as she tried to separate them.

The Telegraph reported that Kevon Watkins told investigators that he argued with his sister on a daily basis.

The now-18-year-old is eligible for parole despite his felony murder conviction. Before handing down the life sentence, Colvin apologized to Kevon Watkins that he was never equipped with the tools to cope with his volatile home life.

And mom didn't knock him over the head with a big stick or frying pan while he choked the sister ?

My wife would have been beating the crap out of my 2 sons with a broom handle if they tried that stunt.

Old time Grandma's would have laid him out flat with a frying pan.

Only after his panicked mom called 911 and arriving officers ordered him to let go did Kevon do so, causing Alexus to drop to the floor.
“Get up off the floor,” Latoya Watkins told her daughter.
She didn’t.
I'm not sure of my understanding to the details of this incidence.

Do they mean that the brother strangled his sister for 15 m until the police came?!!!!!!!!

IF SO, I agree that the situation must have been very difficult, but I just think that waiting police while seeing strangling scene happening among family members is hard and not a good idea. It's good and required to call the police FIRST but not to wait them in this particular situation (in my opinion); I mean the girl could die in much less than 15 minutes. I think when the mother tried verbally to stop them and didn't work, while he was strangling his sister, she or someone else needs to interfere QUICKLY by hitting the attacker BUT DO NOT HIT HIM at the positions that could damage or kill the attacker such as a head, she can hit him on his hands; using her hand might not work, he seems stronger. She can use thin stick that used for cleaning, shoes for instance, because the purpose to make him feel pain so that find himself forcefully stop and leave his sister. I don't know, she might be scared, though.

Father was in the picture.

Incident occurred at 5:15 pm. The mother was sick that day. The mother called the father during the incident but he didn't answer.

Watkins called the children’s father, then her oldest son. No one answered. She then called 911.

So video games are violent and dangerous! If Mr. Anger Management can't control himself with his "SISTER" then he probably wouldn't do good with a girlfriend/wife either.

Hope nobody takes his xbox controller in prison.......man that is going to be a long time in the cage with NO video games to ponder how he got there.
