That is ridiculous! It doesn't take time to say that while you're handing him his lunch. They are talking hopefully to the kids all day. How silly!

I don't. That was the most unprofessional note I can imagine. "NO!!!! Go AWAY!! PUT HIM ON A DIET!" Are you kidding me??? I can't think of ANY worker in any job, not even scrubbing floors, who would not be fired for giving a note like that to a customer.

I agree. We know nothing about that employee. Maybe she had a history of stellar performance and was just having a bad day. Or maybe she was a chronic problem. We just don't know. By firing her, that's four other children that can't be accommodated there (many states have laws requiring an adult caregiver for every 5 children), and that may be four children and four sets of parents who loved that worker. The note-writing mother took her kid elsewhere anyway. The tone of the note suggests to me that the mother was probably a PITA for the daycare staff and her taking to social media to trumpet a note that the child probably couldn't read himself also suggests a pre-existing problem.

I agree the teacher was wrong. That would just would've gotten you a nice escort of the property.

If you do for one, they need to do for all.

Really sad and immature. Just another reason why I refuse to put my kids in daycare.
Sure shows how low the bar is for them to hire someone with that attitude dealing with children.

This day care not mommy & me.

First of all, any day care that has one person for 30 kids needs their license revoked. Second, after the lunches are handed out, the teachers SIT there with the kids and interact with them. I worked in preschool to 8th grade in a public school district, no class had 30 kids, no class had only one person handling a large group of kids, no kids who ate in the classroom were left to eat alone, and taking 2 seconds to say "Your mommy says she loves you" would not have been a problem in the slightest. The entire preschool meal was set up for interaction with the kids from the teachers.

The mom is just trying to get her child to eat healthier foods, she gave him foods he might not prefer, so a little reassurance for him was not out of the question IMO. She's paying a small fortune for her child to be there, I don't think asking for a one sentence note to be read to her child is out of the question.

I don't disagree that parents very likely expect too much from teachers/child care workers but, it doesn't help that they apparently had time to write a hateful note back to the mom. They could have just as easily ignored it altogether.

Preschool & day care maybe. Nobody said anything about the kids eating alone.

But I know that kindergarten - 8th grade did have about 25-30 children in each class. Only kindergarten had two people in the class at all times. The teacher & aid to assist with the young ones. It wasn't until high school when another aid was added to the mix. That was only for English classes. Even then the aid rotated between classes. IE: Four English teachers shared time with the aid every 2-4 weeks.

Maybe now classes are getting smaller and smaller.

That would've been the best thing to do.

I never did that with either of my kids, but I don't think the mom did anything wrong if this was a "once in a blue moon" situation. Yes, I can see why this would be a problem if all the moms of 30 kids (or even three of them) did this almost every day, but what the worker wrote was HORRIBLE, imo. I think she is VERY unsuited for working with young children, and I definitely think that firing her was the right thing to do.

We paid an absurd amount of money for our sons daycare/child care.and his "teachers" we 2 in a class with 10-12 kids. The teachers would text us pictures, knew us by name and would go out of their way to be kind and caring including spending an extra 10 minutes sitting with my son in the morning because he was shy at the start of the day, every day. He went to 2 completely different schools that were not affiliated with each other and we experienced the same level of loving care at both places. Any person teaching under school age children should know that children thrive with gentle care and a little bit goes a long way. And my concern would be if thats how she really feels about my child then how is she treating my child?
