The State Attorney’s Office has decided to prosecute the 9-year-old Ocala boy accused of stabbing his 5-year-old sister last month.
Prosecutors on Tuesday charged the boy with attempted first-degree murder. The boy made a court appearance Wednesday morning and has another appearance scheduled for Feb. 21.
Just an absolutely horrible story. What is going on with siblings these days? There have been a few stories regarding brothers killing or attempting to kill their sisters.
Parents refusing to recognize mental illness in their children. Parents unable to supervise their children. Parents unable to discipline their children.
But don't worry, the primary goal of all the agencies involved will be family reunification, so that this poor child can return home.... to do it again.

This is a child who is mentally ill. He was open and honest with law enforcement, although it really incriminated him. It's interesting, his clarity. This thought came into his head two days ago and he wasn't able to get rid of the thought.
I wonder, if we'll be able to hear more about his history. It may well be that until very recently, he wasn't having these murderous ideations, and no one could have predicted this, not even his mother.
There are medical conditions that can give children insane thought patterns, and OCD, very quickly.

They charged him with attempted murder he isn’t returning home. And we do not know yet what if any interventions were tried or what the circumstance is. I wouldnt have a problem with your post if you used “IMO”’ but to state your opinions as facts is wrong.
A quick check reveals Florida has no statutory minimum age to prosecute a person.
I'll be shocked if they try him as an adult. He can't know that stabbing her means she would die, never to be seen again. My grandson is 6, he doesn't understand death is final
Without knowing many facts, I find it inconceivable that a nine-year-old could be charged with attempted murder, meaning that he was intending to kill his sister.
My husband was in the middle of five boys, and he remembers one of his brothers coming at him with a golf club during a heated argument when they were young teens or tweens. Neither of them ended up in jail*, then or later, and they both went on to lead productive lives. I don't how common such a physical fight with weapons are among siblings, but I find it hard to believe that it is that unusual -- and I certainly haven't read about many kids charged with attempted murder of a sibling!
I am think there must either be MUCH more to this story, or else a prosecutor is being unconscionably over-zealous.
*However, this would have occurred about 1970, before authorities became so paranoid about kids expressing any kind of aggressive behavior and adopted a zero tolerance policy.
P.S. on Edit: The golf club story I just related triggered a memory that I thought I remembered that Burke Ramsey hit JonBenet with a golf club, and in checking it out, I was right, but there seems to be some disagreement as to whether it was an accident or on purpose.

No way a 9 year old understood what he did. This is just a sad story and no one will ever really heal from it. Shame.
