"Not a lot of people understand why this is the goal of the century. Headng into the match, the tensions were high snce Argentina and England were literally in a war 4 years ago, in which England won. There was a lot of emotion on the Argentinian side. For Diego Maradona to basically single handedly beat England with this golazo and “The Hand of God” goal, was inspiring to not just everybody in Argentina, but all of Latin America. My father, from Bolivia, cried tears of joy when he saw the goal because how inspiring Maradona was in leading Argentina to victory over England. This goal, this match meant more than just advancing foward, but inspired kids who came from nowhere and had very little like my dad, that anything is possible and they too can beat theyre biggest enemies and rivals."

RIP, he was having a real hard time before his death:

Maradona has difficulty retaining iron because of gastric bypass surgery he underwent in 2005 to lose 50kg (110 pounds), leaving him prone to anemia, Luque said.
