why shanyka, why? its interesting how this person would end up with less of a penalty than someone who kills a young boy basically due to a matter of better luck (or less skill).
It's not necessarily getting 'worse', it's just that our modern communications technology makes it so you can see/hear about everything that happens near instantaneously.
No, it has definitely gotten worse in my neck of the woods. For many of reasons, including decreased traffic enforcement due to less visible police presence.
I’m not victim blaming, but I think it should be emphasized that there are just too many stressed, angry, entitled, rude, aggressive, clueless and crazy people out driving our roads today to not assume the worst that can happen if one does something that was fairly benign in the past, but will now set off some folks irrationally.
And more people today are driving with guns. Thus, what in the past may have been fairly harmless road rage interactions of flipping the bird or shaking of fists, can now lead to deadly consequences.
I’ve never brake-checked anyone, and certainly would never today given the possible outcomes such as occurred here. I usually just move over whenever an aggressive driver rides my tail like here (I’m not a slow driver either, just try maintain lane speed).
Same with honking (even when they deserve it). And tailgating. And abrupt lane changes (cutting someone off).
And when you’re driving through new areas, you just don’t know what the local driving culture is like, so best to drive defensively and use an avoidance tactic if possible.
I would never "brake check" anyone. Not these days.
If someone tailgates me, I just let them pass.
I do that, as well, but the tailgaters also have to be reasonable. If I'm passing a caravan of semis, I'm going to get over when I safely can, which may take a second.
And whatever happened to just rolling your eyes and driving on? Worse case scenario, give them the finger.
I hope the shooter's children find a safe, loving and permanent home. Although that doesn't seem to be the way "justice" works any more.
This is the only thing that will help in certain situations, and I've been saying it for 25 years. But you're right, it will never happen because people think it's 'mean'.
