Anyone even know who those guys are, let alone that they work for some some kind of major media company? I didn’t see any news vans or anything. How do we know they’re not just two guys making a “hey media makes fake weather reports” videos? It’s just two guys with identical jackets talking to each other what does that prove? How do we know they don’t just have their own YouTube channel that they do weather reports on? Not everything is “the media”
Yes, ocnjgirl. He's the Weather Channel's reporter, Jim Cantore.
It’s not the news media for God sake’s. It comes from the Weather services and from the people who run the states. Evacuation orders do not come from the media.
When I lived down the shore in New Jersey for 18 years, there were multiple multiple storms before Sandy that they told us we might possibly have to leave for. By the time it gets a day or two away, the threat is no longer there. If we evacuated every single time they said this could end up being a big hit on the New Jersey coast, we would’ve been moving in and out half a dozen times during hurricane season. It’s not because of the media, it’s because at the time that they’re making these announcements they don’t know where the track is going to go and at that time it looks like it’s heading toward your state. What do you think the media should do, tell people to ignore the weather forecasters and then their own state officials and just stay put because it’s probably not gonna be any big deal? And you wouldn’t be complaining about that?
Oh, please. Al Roker is with CNN. Anderson Cooper got caught exaggerating Katrina before the levee broke,,, as if Katrina needed his help.
I'm not making this stuff up!
Looks like answered prayers, at this time. Lots of power outages, which everyone expected, and may take weeks to fix, but I'm not seeing people swimming through flooding. Prayers for continued mild conditions.
I have a customer in Thibodaux, LA that I can't get in touch with right now. Hopefully just an issue with the power lines that will get fixed soon.

But people don’t leave based on that. By the time they’re exaggerating the winds, the storm has come and the time for evacuation has come and is long gone. Anyone who wasn’t gone from Louisiana by that time was stuck there so I’m still not sure what you mean about that the media makes people decide whether to leave or to stay.
When I evacuated for Sandy, it wasn’t because Al Roker told me to, it’s because my governor and the people who run our city and county were telling us to. And because weather forecasters, not weather TV personalities, but the actual forecasters, were forecasting that it could be a big hit where I lived which turned out to be true.

Actually I stand corrected. And googling it, apparently the weather channel has quite a history of doing this. I guess when your only source of big ratings is a big storm, that’s what you’re going to do. That’s a shame.
It's why the Weather Channel drives me nuts. I get that those guys love storms, and "big weather"...I mean that is why they went into the field. But sheesh - they spin it to the point of ridiculousness.

Exactly. This is what's being broadcast across our nation. The news, the weather channel, all of it is a big, misleading joke.
And for VaBeachgirl... here's yet another bit of footage that was broadcast as fact until........
You'd think watching the Weather Channel would be a respectable choice.
Good Grief!
Reporter on there , staggering around like he's going to be blown away and then people would show up in the background, just strolling along.
One guy even snuck behind him and did a cartwheel.....camera immediately cut out.

Here's another fake report with Al Roker. Pay close attention at the 51 mark. Watch the bystander in the background. While Roker struggles to remain in an upright position (because he's standing right next to the crashing waves), the bystander strolls up the beach.
This isn't the same news reel I saw earlier. Apparently the news media is creating the same fake drama wherever it goes.
As if Ida needs any help from fakers.
This is hilarious, as pathetic as it really is. Going to look for that on the channels I'm watching. I have heard that the Weather Channel is full of wannabes who are always auditioning, hoping to get picked up as a weather person on a major channel.
Kind of disgusting that they play up something that is causing actual suffering to real people.
