They seemed to be confident in their m.o. Maybe they'd done it before, and didn't get reported, so they tried it again. That's why she should press charges.

I hope her credit card offers zero fraud liability protection so that she won't be out of a single cent other than the cash she was carrying.

It's a shame that that happened. You have to keep your guard up at all times.

What is my comment "telling" you? Help me understand your post. Maybe you can elucidate.

I'm focusing on the takeaway from this unfortunate event. People, especially the elderly and no longer nimble, must be aware of what's happening around them; the world is ever changing. This is advice for all. I am not blaming the old woman, but suggesting ways to avoid a reoccurrence or prevent the same from happening to others.
