Then Piggy #2 came out & also advanced on Bear. Bear leaves.

I study this behavior all the time because I can use it in my day to day life. If you are attacked, don't just fend them off but advance on them with confidence. I saw this happen in a video of two female deer who advanced on a mountain lion that initially was charging at them. Usually they would just run & someone becomes lunch. Instead they ran TOWARDS the lion & the lion retreated. Too much trouble I guess.
That's interesting. I used to take my dog with me when riding my bike (Doberman and he was always on a leash). We had numerous dogs come out to chase us and they'd always stop when we stopped, but would start up the chase again when we continued.

Eventually I learned to drop the bike and then the dog and I together would advance on the dog chasing us. It didn't hurt that I had an alpha dog, either. We never had to walk more than a couple steps. Just to be seen as advancing would make these chasing dogs turn back home and when I got back on the bike, we were then never followed.

No way would I allow a fight to happen between another dog and mine if I could help it, but if the owner of the other dog was outside, it must have looked scary to them, too. I got called a few names but hey, my dog was on a leash, why wasn't yours?

Moral of the story: don't enter someone's home without knocking.

And don't believe the fairy tales you were told as a child. Maybe the bear thought if a wolf could blow down all that straw, then he could to.

Those were some sort of Asian pigs, potbellies, or something similar. Those were full grown mature pigs. Little pink commercial piglets that size would have probably been dinner. because the young ones get excited and run away while doing a lot of screaming.

Black bears tend to not be aggressive. They tend to be opportunistic feeders and not gladiators out to kill their dinner. The pigs were territorial and the bear wasn't going to stick around to test the pig's fighting and injuring capabilities, which happens to be high. An aggressive pig can really put the hurt on you.
