So i guess they knew what they were doing. This reminds me of various stories of athletes whose parents pushed them very hard growing up. A lot of times, this is celebrated. In reality, I am sure it is a very mixed bag. I cant say I did much more than glance at the article and saw a small bit of a video but I think the kid is probably happy about his accomplishment and will take pride in it going forward.

The kid walked for 8.5 hours, simply needing medical attention or not isnt really the cutoff for knowing what you are doing

Sure but then what is the negative consequence?

I don't think anyone is saying there was a negative consequence after the fact, just that it might have been cruel to make him do this. Per reports he was crying, asking to rest, saying he didn't want to finish.

Again just because he didn’t need immediate medical attention doesn’t mean there’s no downside. He very well could have damage to his growth plates, joints and other issues that wouldn’t currently show anything

Sure, but I would need to know if there is a downside to judge this negatively. I know some parents push kids way more than others.

Agree. From a growth and development perspective, the amount of wear and tear a 6 year old is putting on his growing body running a marathon is a legit long-term concern. It would be nice if there is an orthopedic surgeon or rheumatologist who could chime in.

I actually don’t need to know if this specific kid did or would face any negative consequences for this one act to judge this. I am in and around the running community enough to know any sensible person would overwhelmingly reject this behavior. Are we to excuse the drunk driver whom makes it home without incident? Your attempt here is failing of course imo

Sure, no negative consequences would hurt the position that this was bad if you didnt choose to ignore it.

There are always people who push the limits. I guess the parents knew that this was within their child's limit.
