Guy blew 50mm in earnings, declared bankruptcy but hid money and the court found out and sentenced him for the fraud.

My favorite quote in one of the articles I read was “Boris is a better tennis player than businessman.”

Don't expect great athletes to be great geniuses. Many seem to think they are. Usually, they aren't.

I suppose he became accustomed to a certain lifestyle during high income years that was unsustainable after retirement. Bad investments, an expensive divorce, it sounds quite likely.

Attempting to cheat bankruptcy court was the worst move of all. Game, set and match, Boris.

I don’t think you have to be stupid to make poor financial decisions, or to marry the wrong people.

Curious, I looked it up. They’re not briefcases they’re called “Dopp bags” and include toiletries and other things for after the game:

“While lugging a book bag into games might prevent fans from seeing all the features of an outfit, he added, “a dopp kit is smaller and easier to manage.” Although his checkered Louis Vuitton wash bag is clearly a fashion accessory, it also serves a practical purpose. Aside from toiletries, he keeps his iPad (for studying game film) and his cellphone and chargers in his bag. Mr. Tucker also packs a charger, but just for his toothbrush. The Rockets player currently favors a Tom Ford dopp kit with “big gold double-zips and lots of storage” for his body wash, deodorant, lip balm and cologne.”

Exacerbated by being in a career where the average retirement age is usually in your 20's or early 30s, which requires a lot of additional financial planning.
