It’s sad. These wild animals are not cuddly pets. I remember the park rangers working so hard to keep crowds away from bears during my last visit to Yellowstone.
I also saw tourists at Everglades National Park posing for pictures next to alligators along the walkway. (!!!) Darwin’s Law at work?
So many people are so far removed from nature they have no respect for it. Media anthropomorphizes wild animals so much I guess people think that is real life.
Goodness look how we now see and treat our dogs and cats.
And people dont realize signs and instructions are there for a reason or that they dont apply to them.

I think that's the problem. Also, if they have never left civilization, they might assume that since the animals are there, they must be safe or "somebody" would not have allowed them to be there.
Bet you anything she was trying to get a photo for Facebook. Ten feet. If I saw something that huge, you'd bet your ass I'd stay far away and hope it didn't see me.
Ah. Then there's still a chance she learned a lesson!
