Former first lady Rosalynn Carter has dementia, the Carter family said Tuesday.
The announcement, which was released by the Carter Center, comes as Carter's husband, former President Jimmy Carter, is receiving hospice care at their home in Plains, Georgia.
The center said in a statement that Rosalynn Carter, 95, "continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones."
Not my favorite President, but these are very good people

Haven't they been through enough?
Agreed. I know that President Carter has been in hospice for some time, and frankly I expected to hear news of his passing a while ago. I hope that he is physically comfortable and not suffering.
She's 95 and that is to be expected at her age. Her body is slowing down and her time on this earth is coming to an end. She and Jimmy will be making their journeys to heaven soon.

"For some time" is a matter of point of view.
It was only February 18th, so.. 3 months, give or take.. Which isn't a long time.
But.. When it comes to entering hospice care.. Three months is an eternity. Most people.. They are only receiving that for a week or two at most before they pass. Even two weeks is a Very Long Time.
Anyway.. Focus on the good.. They both have had long, extraordinary lives.
I’m not a fan of the Carter administration but he and his wife have class.
He was the best elder statesman in recent times, possibly the best ever.
I wish the best for her and her husband.
The ideal is to reach old age and die perfectly healthy. Getting diagnosed with dementia at 95 isn't bad at all. A lot of people are diagnosed with dementia at earlier ages.
Dementia is one of those diseases I imagine affects more those that are for a dementia sufferer, especially if it's a family member, than the dementia sufferer him or herself for obvious reasons.
They are both excellent people. I hope they have peaceful passings.
