It wouldn't be the first time in LA. With John Belushi's overdose death in the 1980s they charged the woman that provided him the fatal dose.
As much as I would like to see criminal drug dealers go down addicts volunteer to do business with those people and even know/realize they put something in their drugs like fentanyl for that 'boost' that makes it's special. On the other hand too many don't realize there is fentanyl in their drugs or the area they are in.
They don't volunteer for fentanyl. Sometimes they think they're buying a Xanax or Percocet and get this poison instead. I think we should go one further than charging the dealers. I think fentanyl poison is an act of war by the cartels and we are justified to eliminate them. If a country's military killed 7,500 Americans a day we'd go to war. People need to wake up and do something about this poison.
Why not make simple instant tests strips for fentanyl if we can’t convince people to stop doing drugs?
They say it is even in marijuana - so a lot of teens die trying it.
Because the pills are made by uneducated cartel gang members and not pharmacists, so it's uneven. You could get one half of a pill with a fatal dose of fentanyl and the other half doesn't have any. You could test strip it and miss that it even has a fatal dose. And Narcan won't work if a person is alone or with other people who get poisoned. We have to eliminate this at the source, and right now that source is drug cartels.
No, I don't agree....I will argue that treating drug abuse primarily as a health issue rather than a criminal offense is more effective. The solution is guaranteeing that addicts receive a safe supply.
We've been going with this strategy the past few years with disastrous results. It isn't working in case you haven't noticed.
Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine. Carfentanyl is 100 times stronger than fentanyl. First responders have ODed just from breathing the dust in the air.

There are fentanyl addicts.Yes many addicts don't realize their preferred drug is laced with fentanyl. But fentanyl addiction has been/is real.
If one chooses to seek a chemical high in/from an illegal drug dealer expect consequences.
Do you know how many teenagers have died just from taking a pill they thought was Percocet but was found to have no Percocet in it? They aren't drug addicts, they're curious teenagers. Stop acting like the only victims of this are homeless drug addicts. Besides, I don't like the idea that people should die so we don't have to take care of them. These are people's wives, husbands, parents, sons, and daughters.
Just dont confuse dealers with addicts. Addicts are drug dependent much like diabetes patients that require insulin. As long as they get their meds, they are fine. Not all addicts became addicts because of a drug infested party life. At one point, doctors gave out opiates to anyone that had or claimed they had pain. The general consensus was no one needed to suffer with pain. That is a big reason we have so many addicts now. Medication to control the addiction is expensive, somewhere between 5 and 6 thousand a year. Not everyone can afford that so it results in theft and other issues.
There are big settlements against some pharma companies. I only hope the money goes directly to help addicts and not some methadone clinics fancy desk for some medical director that may have been responsible for prescribing opiates to begin with.
