So i noticed that the break handles go almost to the handle bars for them to engage. Any way to make a quick adjustments i dont really feel like packing it up to bring it to the bike store all the time...oh by the way it has disc breaks.

Take a good pic of the brake handles and the brake itself on the axle.

Post the pic.

It will be easier for anybody here to tell what to do next.

Some disc brakes are hydraulic, some are cable operated ...

Yes. On the caliper-the unit over the rotor-there is/are usually a knob(s) one can turn to move the pads closer to the rotor. Turn said knobs so the pads move closer to the rotor. Consult owner's manual.

Check Sheldon Brown's site out.

Harris Cyclery Articles About Brakes

You can probably find your brake type in here. I've seen youtube videos demonstrating how to adjust brake cables as well. But you need to know what type of brake then google it.

On the caliper, the wire that comes from the brake handle is held on by a nut. Loosen that nut and pull the wire (using pliers), then re-tighten the nut.

Then take a brake.

But if you get to carried away with tensioning the cable the pads will drag on the rotor.

Pick up a book on bike repair like Park's Big Blue Book and some tools. If you stick with it you will break even on the first or second repair.

Took a look at it yesterday and it was just a small clamp holding down the cable. So I got my allen wrenches and loosened it up a bit took in the lever a bit tightened it up and much better.
