Hi all,

I'm relocating to Dallas in a few weeks, and have only ever been to Dallas a few times before. I'm a young professional looking to stay in the Uptown area, but am struggling with the various options.

Basically my budget is approximately $1500 for a 1B/1Br. I know that can get me some nice places, but was wondering if there were any apartments that come highly recommended for my price. Conversely, any insights on which apartments to avoid in particular (poor management, hidden costs, noisy neighbors etc.) would also be helpful.

THanks in advance for the help!!

Just as an FYI, if you are willing to go across the highway to the M-Streets, you could rent a heck of a house or a duplex for that price.

Check out some of the places in State Thomas (I've heard the Post Worthington is a good one). It's close to all the activity of McKinney Avenue but in a quiet neighborhood of its own.

Alternatively, you can look at some downtown. There are some nice places in your price range (Mercantile Place, Gables Republic, etc).

Here's a list of all the buildings: Residences | Downtown Dallas

Send me a PM if you have any other questions (I live downtown).

You're better off looking at less expensive areas, and saving the difference for a down payment on a house, condo or town home. Why anyone would spend that kind of money on a rental is beyond me.

Stay away from 3636 McKinney. That is a very rich kids fraternity house.

mSooner: Why would I want a duplex? I don't really need the space.

dfw: Heard Post was actually a pretty bad management company. Slow and inefficient. A couple of agents told me today that they would avoid it at all cost.

vorsprung: I strongly believe buying a house is one of the worst things I can do at my age. Ignoring the interest rate fallacy, it severely restricts my options.

portorrow: I'll keep that in mind. Thanks. I do want to stay away from the college crowd for sure.
