Hello All! I have been an RN for a year now and have finally decided to move to Dallas (been thinking about it for a couple years now). However, I can't seem to find a job. I went into long term care of elderly straight from nursing school, and would really like to work in a hospital in order to learn more. I have no hospital experience so no-one is willing to give me a chance. Any ideas? Does anyone know how I can solve this?...please help! I plan to be in town this weekend. Any information would be greatly appreciated I plan on living south of dallas and the maximum commute for me would be 40 mins.

Baylor, Methodist, and Texas Health are the big three in DFW. I would try them.

You DO have experience. Long-term care is your experience!! I work in that industry, and I honestly can't believe that any hospital won't hire a qualified RN. DFW has a nursing shortage going on, and there are many fewer nurses (especially RNs) than there are jobs.

If you're going to be south of Dallas, look at Methodist, Baylor, and Parkland/UT/Zale-Lipshy.

Have you decided where you're going to live or will your job location dictate your home choice? Most hospital systems in north Texas offer Nurse Internship programs. These are not just for new grads, but for any nurse wanting to change specialty or for those out of the field for a while. With you experience being in LTC, you're more likely to obtain employment if you go through an internship program. Here are some suggestions where to start:

Baylor Healthcare System Internships: call Tiffany Lapidus at 214.820.8211 or email at Tiffany.Lapidus@BaylorHealth.edu.

Parkland Healthcare System

Methodist Health Care System: offers RN refresher courses and interships
Methodist Dallas Medical Center

Texas Health Resources (Presbyterian Hospitals/Arlington Memorial/Harris-Methodist)Offers Internships in the following areas:
OR Nursing Internships
Acute Med/Surg Internships
Critical Care Internships
ER Nursing Internships
Telemetry
Contact them online:https://www.texashealth.org

UT Southwest offer Nurse Internships:
Mail:
UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas
Office of Human Resources / Mail Code 9023
5323 Harry Hines Boulevard, Dallas, Texas 75390-9023

Telephone: (214) 648-9810
Fax: (214) 648-9875
THE OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES
214-648-9810
Fax
214-648-9708

As you can see, the larger hospital systems have facilities located throughout the metroplex. But you'll have to ck with the HR dept as to whether your internship has to be at one of the larger/main facilities rather than one of the outlying ones. And there are countless LTC facilities that would welcome an RN with LTC experience.

I'm with you on that CP. I find it hard to believe you can't find a job as a RN. The medical field is boomimg and there is a need in all areas of healthcare. Try doing a search on 'hospitals in Dallas, TX and Ft. Worth, TX'. This will give the surrounding cities which there are many.
I will be moving back to TX and already received five to six job offers in OT/PT. You will probably need internet access because most application are going to be online; bring your flash drive with your cover letter and resume on it so you can dowload with you application. Oh yea, charge up that cell phone and clear you inbox of your email. I had to change my message on my cell phone to tell them to email their information because they were filling up my cell phone messaging center. God bless you with the job search, you'll have no problem.

On WFAA Channel 8 they do a nightly "Job of the Day" thing and I remember last week they had a clip on Hospitals in DFW looking for RNs. Check out: WFAA Job of the Day (http://beloblog.com/jobs/ - broken link) The link is still there. I hope this works for you.

Kindred Hospital. It's a LTAC and Rehab facility. Good place!

My LTC facility is also hiring for a weekend night shift RN. DM me if you're interested.

THANK YOU ALL so much for all the information. I have some more calls to make. I decided that if I don't get a job at a hospital, I will just continue with LTC until I can get one. Thanks again!
