Went to Lakewood Church in Houston and loved it!! Been watching Joel Osteen for years and was wondering are there any churches here like his? Non denominational, dress uo or down, with contemporary music and actual bible worships? No rock concerts please!!!

Watermark is close in feel- casual, big, contemporary. But they don't preach Osteen's "health and wealth" gospel if you are attracted to that part of his doctrine.

If you are more liberal, you may like Cathedral of Hope.

You might want to check out Elevate Life Church in Frisco. The pastor there and Joel Osteen are good friends and sometimes reciprocate speaking at each other's churches.

I don't consider myself an overly-spiritual person but I did a spit-take when I saw the words "Joel Osteen" and "church" in the same sentence.

Joel Osteen is Tony Robbins meets Robert Schuller, and what he preaches is less religion and more spiritual psychobabble. It dumbs the Bible down to sunshine and roses. "Let's just forget all about those vengeful God parts and skip right to the good stuff! God wants you to be rich!"

Osteen has no formal theological training or education whatsoever (unless recording daddy's sermons counts as OTJ training) and openly claims to be a neophyte when it comes to parts of Christianity as a whole. The "Prosperity Gospel" of today is nothing more than the evolution of the same phony bill of goods that Oral Roberts and Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker attempted to sell the world in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Ever notice that the only people getting rich off the prosperity gospel are the Osteens and their ilk? IMNSHO taking spiritual advice from Joel Osteen is akin to getting medical advice from a diesel mechanic.

If lining the pockets of a "God is good" spiritually-based motivational speaker is your goal then the Elevate Life Church is for you. If getting a broad, Bible-based look at Christianity as a whole (good AND bad) is your goal, I'd look elsewhere.

You might find that Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall is a good alternative. Great music and the preacher is very likeable, but way more laid back than Osteen.
