Some of you may have read my earlier posting about my family's likely relocation to Dallas. One thing that is important to us in making our decision is finding out about the Irish culture (if any) in the area.

My hubby is Irish (raised in Dublin) and a member of the Hiberian Society here. Is there anything similar in Dallas? If there is (and you are familiar with it), is it welcoming to non-Catholic Irish--this has been a problem for us in the past?

Are there any Irish dancing schools, Irish cultural centers, or the like? Any decent pubs?

While we love St. Patty's day, we are more interested in on-going activities and services.

There's the North Texas Irish Festival once a year at Fair Park -

Edited to add - I once had a neighbor who was from Ireland and she was non-Catholic. She moved to Allen though. I don't think she knew any others like her but she wasn't exactly friendly.

Thanks for the info about the festivals. Anyone have any additional information? We're not looking for Boston or Chicago level, just a little community. If not, heck maybe we'll just have to get something started. :-)

You can contact the Texas AOH here AOH Texáis Stát

There is also an Irish American Society, IAS Dallas . I don't know if a lot of expats are members but they might be able to steer you in the right direction.
