I will be moving to Dallas in the next few months with my husband and daughter (she is two). My Husband will be working northwest Dallas (I think Downtown). We are planning to rent at first until we can get a feel for the city. We would like to stay within a 30 minute commute for work. Any suggestions on safe, family friendly places to live. We have been looking into Grapevine and Coppell. What is the commute like? Any suggestions on apartments? We are open to moving anywhere if you have any suggestions.

An early welcome to you. Northwest Dallas and Downtown are two very separate areas. If your husband is downtown, you might consider looking east toward Lakewood of the 'M' Streets. It really depends on your price range, though. Also, whether you would prefer a house or apartment. Lakewood has some great older homes with a lot of character.

If your husband is actually working in northwest Dallas, as opposed to downtown, there are even more areas to choose from which are affordable and family friendly. Grapevine and Coppell both have great areas (although both would be at least 30 minutes from downtown in rush hour traffic, but much shorter from NW Dallas). There are also some great areas in NW Dallas, Carrollton, Irving (especially Valley Ranch and Las Colinas). Really, so many choices up that way.
