Seeking affordable housing, Good school system especially for a child with lauguage impairment. I have a Daughter age 16, and a Son age 12. I am also seeking work as a Cerified Medical Assistant. Serious inquiry Please help!

Is being around many other African-Americans important? If so, DeSoto, Lancaster, Cedar Hill, Grand Prarie, Garland, and Arlington would be your best bets.

It really depends on where you will be working. I have a co-worker that was in your very same boat. She has a son that is autistic. She lived in Valley Ranch and is now in Cedar Hill. She has been happy in both. The most affordable housing is in the southern and northeastern sections of Dallas. Cedar Hill, Desoto, Mesquite, Garland and many others will fit the bill. Both areas have a sizable AA population. If you work north I see no reason to pass up on Richardson or Plano. They are both very communities and have enough AA's that you want feel isolated. Select what part of town you will be working in and what district would be best for your son. Dallas is very diverse so unless you want to live in a area that is 90% minorities your options are wide open.

I would recommend Garland as well. It's a very diverse area, plenty of middle class African American families. A coworker of mine has a teenage daughter who has a mild learning disorder, and she has been thrilled with GISD.
