My 1st grader is keen on learning horse riding. Are there riding schools in the metroplex ?

I would prefer schools around Coppell, Grapevine or Irving.

Thanks
Rohan

Three things you need to decide:

A) What's your budget/goals? I.E., How much of an investment do you want to make in this? I've ridden for 15+ years and have a ton of recommendations, but I also competed on a national-level and was awarded a full athletic scholarship because of it. Knowing what your budget/goals are makes a big difference.

B) English or Western? I've ridden show jumpers, so I'm obviously partial to English, and can make better suggestions if you choose that route.

C) How far are you willing to drive? Most worthwhile horse properties are around Denton - Argyle, Pilot Point, etc. I grew up in Keller, and we drove to Argyle almost every day until I could drive myself. It was a ~25 minute drive. From Grapevine, it would be comparable.

Thanks all for the inputs - they were very helpful.

Apropos LORATLIFF's questions:
1. Budget: I have no idea how much horse riding lessons would cost and my spending would depend on the "ouch" factor. I think $300 / month is my upper limit. Is that too high or low?

2. I am looking at something simple for my 1st grader - a Summer activity. Either style should work out

3. I will have to drive him around. I work / live in Las Colinas and so am looking at fast commutes. Argyle & other places are simply too far.

$300 a month is actually a very reasonable amount if you just want it to be an occasional/once or twice-per-week thing.

Your area is a bit limiting, so the only place I know of within driving distance for you would be Las Colinas Equestrian Center. It's a nice facility, but I'm not sure who's training out of there, what their rates are, or anything of that nature. Here's their website: Las Colinas Equestrian Center

If anything else springs to mind, I'll post again.

PiaRao, Sorry, I picked this up now. Our Horse Riding plans took a backseat during summer...did not really follow through.
