Hi. I live in the Phoenix area and am wanting to move out of here so badly.

I am unemployed as of recently - lost 2 jobs in the last 2 years. The 1st was with an investment firm that decided to incorporate a massive layoff because of the unstable market, and the most recent was with a small office I was managing that went belly-up because of the economy.

OK, so much for my troubles and the crappy economy of Phoenix.

I have never been to Dallas, but I hear so many good things about it and Texas overall - no state income tax, better wages, affordable homes, good schools, lots to see and do, and friendly down-to-earth people.

Will be searching online to find lucrative companies in the DFW area which are hiring, but wanted to get some insight from some of the c-d members in the area.

What are some good companies in the DFW area that pay a decent wage? Looking for white-collar finance, banking, investment, or even management if available.

Not expecting anything astronomical, but decent enough for me to afford a small house or apartment in a nice area of town and not struggle too much.

I have a BA in management, lots of experience with accounting and finance, and planning on renewing my Series 7 -63 licenses to trade securities.

I have posted a similar thread in some other forums on c-d. Just want to get a feel for different areas before I make a move.

Thank you.

Thank you so much.

You have really sparked my curiosity. Wasn't aware Dallas is HQ for so many lucrative, well-established companies. Of course anything is better than Phoenix at this point.

I have a couple of friends who work for/own staffing companies for finance and accounting. I used to use them when I worked for Sprint. One of them found a job for someone who did just what you're doing. I referred this random guy who I had never met but he sounded like he had his act together and apparently he did. Send me a DM if you want details.

Staffing companies certainly aren't the only way to find jobs but it can be a good way to find some leads.

DFW area is not as cheap as it once was, to live "cheap" you spend lots of $$$ on gas and commuting, or live in a not so desireable area, or well if you buy a "cheap" house it looks "cheap". Also, sales tax is high. 8.25 to 8.5% in most areas. Property taxes and school taxes are very high, as well. People are not that friendly and down to earth in the city, if you get out of Tarrant and Dallas county they tend to be friendlier. I find people here a bit paranoid actually. Everyone is afraid there's a child molester or purse snatcher around at all times. If you can get a job and live around Denton or go south to the Waxahachie area, you may find what you are looking for. It's alot cleaner out north or south also. The air in DFW proper is just dirty.
