Totally agree with you on your points, but it would be nice if DART rail was built out a lot more. Ridership for work commutes would increase if lines really could take them from where they live to where they work. Right now that doesn't work for most people.

In the Bay Area BART and Caltrain combine to provide commuter rail along the major arteries in the bay area (Oakland/East Bay <-> SF, and SF <-> San Jose).

Here between Ft. Worth and Dallas you've got TRE, but it doesn't run nearly enough. You do have a rail line that runs down 75, but not one down the Tollway. I wonder if NTTA is opposed to a line that runs the length of the tollway because it would reduce the amount of tolls collected.

My rant was to demonstrate that insurance is a form of socialism. Sort of like Co-Op(eratves) for grain. With such grain elevators, every farmer doesn't need to have their own grain elevators. There is no such thing as a pure capitalism nor has there ever been one.

They are doing just the opposite. i saw on a bus yesterday a sizeable rate increase on the Dart. For example, an annual pass will go from 650 to 1000, monthly from 65 to 100. weekly i believe is going from 15 to 20.

As Texas regulates the insurance industry, the state needs to force the insurance companies to provide commuting Texas customers with weekend insurance policies with options to cover emergencies.
In Soviet Russia we do this already!!

Haha

Wow. But Soviet Russia is no longer communist as the Soviet Union is no more. But let me get this straight. Insurance companies in Russia offer a weekend policy to cover your vehicle? Meaning you aren't covered the five days that you choose not to use your vehicle while commuting by mass transit to work, but you are covered for the two days off from it?

Excuse me? Look, I have a good imagination. In using it, I can try to imagine what the new urban is going to look like one day. In Dallas, it is going to be strung together along corridors in TODs between the many downtown business corridors, the commercial shopping districts, the major employments centers, and the industrial areas spread out about the area.
As gas continues to rise, people will desire to drive less. But, you know what? A lot of people don't need the price to go up. I can express my freedom without having to drive my vehicle every day for seven days a week. In not doing so, I save on fuel and maintenance.
In fact, I didn't even ride my scooter today.
See, this has nothing to do with state regulation as the insurance companies have always been regulated. Why not give people an incentive to not drive their vehicles. I'm not saying that the insurance companies should be cheated, but that they should be kept from cheating people by charging them insurance when they don't need it. In other words, in order to get good customer service from insurance companies, sometimes the state needs to give them a swift kick in the behind.

I with you on that one too Mr N. People shouldn't be on streets, they should be on sidewalks. It's just not safe.

Okay, here is what new urban is going to look like in the future. This is part of what I consider to be the Northpark Commercial Shopping District:
http://www.midtownpark.com/pdfs/VCM_...-09NoKREED.pdf
This rather impressive picture shows a Dart rail line going down the middle of it and Central Expressway off to the right to the west. I can imagine living and working in this TOD while being close to lots of shopping.
Okay, ideally, I can also agree to give up my vehicle for 5 days that I am commuting to work by way of mass transit. On the two days I am off, KI can then purchase a two day insurance policy.
